LOGOMANIACS
CREATIVE WRITER PROGRAM
Is your kid an aspiring writer whose favorite place is the library or the bookshop?
LOGOMANIACS is our program for creative writers and is designed for students who can’t get enough of English literature. It develops their specific reading and writing skills at an advanced level. The students in this program are authors and literary critics in the making who will benefit from a rich intellectual environment.
The programs will be designed per semester and each semester the thematic will change but the format will be consistent. Subject matters may be wide range like fiction (which could include poetry, short story, and novel) or they can be more specialized like Life Writing or Fantasy Writing- Reading the Harry Potter Saga.
The program starts with an introduction to the particular genre and students do some reading of examples chosen by or with the tutor and they discuss the work guided by the tutor. These sessions develop oral skills, reading comprehension, and critical thinking. They also teach the students how to be constructive in the way they express themselves about their own opinions. This in turn helps the student be confident when speaking in public and also be empathetic and respectful towards other opinions which helps them develop their self-esteem and peer relations.
After criticism sessions students will get a chance to write their own version of the genre that is being analyzed. There will be short writing exercises that are done in class that aid in the writing process and help creative juices flow. At home students will read writing that is submitted weekly by a different student or set of students and is discussed in each subsequent session.
Each student must print out the samples that will be read and make constructive notes for each author to read. Each student will discuss some of their perceptions with the author so the author is be able to write an enriched and improved second draft.
Students will be working on their drafts throughout the semester and at the end a reading will be held for parents and friends where each author can read their work in a professional reading environment. We will take a few sessions to practice the readings, watching famous authors in their own readings, among other things.
Student work will be published on the website (this can be included as works published in their resumes or applications for competitive writing programs). LOGOMANIACS meets once a week for two-hour sessions.
