DIFFERENTIAL LEARNING

SPECIAL NEEDS OR DIAGNOSED CONDITIONS
Does your kid have a learning disability or diagnosed condition that is interfering with their English performance?

DIFFERENTIAL LEARNING  is our program for kids with special needs or diagnosed conditions. It is divided in two approaches: Academic Reinforcement and Creative Development. They both develop individual plans for each student in order to help them have a positive relationship with reading and writing in English. Our goal here is to make the relationship between the student and English, one that is pleasant and beneficial.

A student with dyslexia, for example, tends to have a miserable time in English class. Our Academic Reinforcement program is geared to have the student be able to understand what they are reading in class and be able to discuss main and secondary ideas confidently. Our jobs as tutors of students with Special Needs or diagnosed conditions is to help them see that it is possible to build bridges that will lead them to academic success and moreover love of reading and writing. Our goal is to have the student lose their fear or apprehension for reading and writing.

The Creative Development Program is a space designed for the student to use their creative side to strengthen their English skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) through topics of their choice. Here, the tutor and the student discuss the student’s particular interests (wizards, for example)  from there, the tutor designs a workshop with the central theme that the student chose where students can work on their research skills or creative writing, among other options.

HOW DOES THE DIFFERENTIAL PROGRAM WORK?

Our team works with the participation of a professional psychologist who will have an initial session with the parents where they can talk about the specific condition, history, academic experience, social aspects, etc. After, the psychologist, tutor, and student have a conversation where the student is able to interact freely with the tutor and psychologist and we are able to get an idea of the student´s likes, dislikes, and general personality.  After this initial session, our psychologist and tutor will write a personalized plan for the student and meet with the parents to present the plan and strategy. We have experience working with kids with ADHD, Dyslexia, and Autism but are open to meeting with all students and help them with their particular needs.
